Purchasing from places overseas can be really scary sometimes and I was really nervous about placing my order with coollcd. I live in Chicago so putting my faith in it getting here without a hitch from across the globe terrified me! But I pulled the trigger, and I was so surprised! They were extremely helpful with their live chat option, they gave me a tracking number and my package arrived sooner than the order I placed with B&H! The package was safe and the products came just as described! I was so worried that my package would be lost among the shuffle but It was a very stress free experience. It fits my a6300 perfectly and it doesnt add much weight, doesnt inhibit my process and I feel all around safer with it on. I ordered this because I heard it helps with overheating, havent used it with video enough to notice but will update review if needed! I also ordered the leather top mounted handle and it looks and feels awesome! I normally dont write reviews but I wanted to after I saw how awesome the service was, and at such a great deal! Definitley would buy from this company again! Many thanks Coollcd!
I'm a long time gearhead that appreciates good fabrication. The small rig cage that I bought for my a6500 borders on art. It is designed so nothing you have to do to the camera (like changing batteries) will be impeded and require removing the camera from the cage. It provides many, many options for how one wants to put their rig together. Mic placement, lens support for long lenses, aux battery, monitors - whatever you want, wherever you want to put it, there is a threaded attachment point for it, and many accessories, designed by the same people, that will allow you to make a custom rig that's what you want your rig to be. This is a great product. The cost is incredibly reasonable.
I bought this cage for my sony a6300 to attach extra accessories and prevent it from overheating when shooting 4k. I can say that its been doing a great job so far. Adding the cage also gave me a great deal of confidence in the camera as it protects the camera from accidental hits and dings. The overall footprint is small and it does not make the camera much bigger.
Sturdy and so many many connection points
Needed a rig to mount accessories for my A6300 and this cage gave me tons of options as far as mounting a mic, monitor, lights etc.
Definitely a conversation starter. Not many photographer purchase a cage for their camera. I am a street photographer and I like to move quick. So I need a little more protection for my not so tough sony a6000. its been great so far! I love it! just I am worried that the bottom screw will be dull fast. I never removed it, but I shaved a little bit of it off the very first time I tightened it with a key! other than that its GOLD!
The only downside is that its difficult to see the on off switch when glancing at the camera. It can only be seen at an angle from the back making it slightly harder to check if the camera is still on. (I'm nitpicking now). However, that is not a dealbreaker as using all the dials, buttons and ports are still very easy with the cage and it does not come in the way.
I added a small computer fan to the back of the sensor in conjunction with this rig (right between the screen and sensor)... I can get about 90 min straight of 4K in the a6300 at this point. Well more than what I need, since honestly most of my clips are less than 2 minutes on whatever project I'm shooting. I noticed near the top of the rig, it wasn't making direct contact with the camera. I added some cheapo thermal pad to fill the gap, and there is now connection. Overall, I think we're good to go. For the cost of this rig + $30 of tinkering, the $1,000 a6300 is a legit production cam that we have faith in not overheating.
I originally wrote a review that critiqued this cage for not securely holding the a6300 in place and having a lot of play left and right. As it turns out, upon further use I was mounting the camera wrong. The thumbscrew for the base tripod mount on the camera is designed to be screwed in with the camera slightly pulled away from the front of the cage, but then slid forward and tightened with the camera flush to the front of the cage, at which point the mount is rock solid. I'm overjoyed, this cage is sturdy, attractive, the perfect amount of additional rigging locations and keeps the form factor trim. Very happy, highly recommended
