This is the perfect length for attaching to the Manfrotto 577 quick release base side threads, with a small locking metal flash holder permanently attached. The attached 7" LCD monitor can go directly to the left side of my Canon 5D, hover several inches over the components on the top of the DSLR cage or go to the back of the camera in front of the camera's LCD. I am glad that I did not order the shorter arm for the LCD but I may for the Z96 LED light. Having a knob tightener rather than a quick lock lever is nice as you can keep drag on the joints. In other words the joints will not flop over and it only takes me one turn of the knob to fully tighten which takes no more time than the lever type. Unlike some other reviews of other brands, there is no chance of the arm wilting down with the weight or with camera movement as the joints definitely lock tight and could probably hold several LCD monitors. Also, there also is no vibration, twang, teetering or whatever you call it, in the monitor as it is solid. Johnston
